Donation Terms and Refund Policy
Last updated: 7 October 2026
1. Your gift
A donation is a voluntary gift to Sought-Out Cities Arts, Skills and Empowerment Initiative. You receive no goods or services in return. The smallest gift is ₦1,000 or $1. You can give as yourself or on behalf of an organisation; an organisation's receipt and statements are made out to the organisation.
2. How gifts are used
Gifts fund our skills, entrepreneurship and empowerment projects for youths and women. A small percent of gifts made through an ambassador's link goes to that volunteer ambassador as a stipend, to support their work and cover some of their expenses; the rest goes to the projects. Gifts not made through an ambassador go wholly to the projects. We may move funds between projects to where they are most needed.
3. Payment fees
Card, instant transfer and crypto payments carry the payment provider's fee. You cover it with a small fee cover shown before you pay, so the rest of your gift is kept for the projects and volunteer stipends. Card fees vary a little, so the cover includes a small margin; anything left over also goes to support our projects. Transfers to our bank account carry no fee from us (your own bank may charge you).
4. When a gift is confirmed
| How you give | Confirmed |
|---|---|
| Card or bank app, instant bank transfer (Paystack); card in US dollars (Flutterwave) | Automatically, usually within minutes |
| USDT crypto (NOWPayments) | Automatically, once the network confirms it |
| Transfer to our Naira bank account | By our team, usually within 1 to 2 working days |
| International (SWIFT) transfer | By our team, usually within 1 to 7 working days |
| Item or property | After our team reviews it and contacts you |
To receive your receipt, you confirm your email with a 6-digit code after giving. Donors with an account can download statements of their confirmed gifts for any period in the last 12 months.
5. Items and property
When you offer an item, land, a building, equipment or a vehicle, you tell us its estimated value in good faith. We may accept, decline or ask for more information before agreeing to receive it. The value we record is an estimate for our records and is not a valuation for tax or any other purpose.
6. Points and badges
Confirmed gifts earn points toward donor badges: 1 point per ₦1,000 or $1, rounded up. Points and badges have no cash value and cannot be exchanged, sold or transferred.
7. Refunds
Gifts are final and are not refunded. The one exception is a duplicate payment: if you were charged twice for the same gift and tell us at support@socasemp.org within 14 days of giving, we refund the duplicate payment to the same card, account or wallet it came from, through the payment provider.
We refund what we received for the duplicate payment. The payment provider's fee is not refunded, because the provider keeps it and it never reaches us. Any stipend credited to an ambassador on the duplicate payment is taken back. Crypto refunds also lose the network fee.
If your card or account was used without your permission, contact your bank or card provider straight away, and tell us so we can help. A bank transfer we cannot match to a gift form is returned to the sending account once we can identify it.
Please contact us before asking your bank for a chargeback; we can usually resolve problems faster.
8. Currency
Gifts are charged in Naira or US dollars. If your card or bank uses another currency, it sets the exchange rate and any conversion fee; we do not control either.
9. Tax
We send receipts for every confirmed gift. Socasemp does not currently hold a status that lets donors claim gifts against tax; please check with your tax adviser.
10. Fraud and returned gifts
We may refuse or return a gift if we suspect fraud or money laundering, if the source of funds is unclear, or if accepting it would conflict with our values or the law.
